3.5. Implementation and Maintenance of the Components

A specific methodology for introducing components of a health information system into a district health system obviously depends on what kinds of components have to be introduced. In the context of this thesis, the implementation of a software application product, which has to be constructed during the deployment in the district, can be assumed to be of mayor interest. A gradual implementationof succeeding versions of the software application product enables a gradual training of involved staff. In addition, it allows a pretesting of preliminary versions. Obvious coding errors can be revealed and sources for misinterpretations of the user interface can be identified. For the maintenance at district level, it is important to appoint staff for the organizational aspects of data processing with the software application product, e.g. for making security copies of entered data. The maintenance of the software application product with regard to extincting errors in coding will prove rather difficult after ending the official deployment. Although the implementation of preliminary versions can prove to be useful in identifying errors in time, it must be expected, that some errors might remain undetected. This requires the submission of corrected versions via mail, with the danger of an incorrect implementation of the new version.
